Today's The Day!!!!

Image from here

You know what today is, right?

Tuesday.

Youngest has his model building class after school so I plan to go look at materials for the long wall of storage in the sun room.  I have this idea in my head and I just can't seem to find what I need to make it happen.  After I pick up the kids, I'm leaving them with Tony and going to get the taxes done.

Tony: "What do you mean you're getting the taxes done?"
Me: "Um.  What do you mean?"
Tony: "Why did you make the appointment to get them done then?"
Me: "Because they need to get done."
Tony: "On Valentine's Day?"
Me: "She said she'd buy me roses."

Know what else today is?

The day I give away the Scrap book software from MyMemories.com.

So Patty.... today's your lucky day!  Now you can get the software yourself and dabble, design and make DVD's  for FREE, you know... in your spare time...

Enjoy!

Our unseasonably warm weather has left me completely forgetting to winterize the house this year.  Quite simply, I have five windows left  that are still the original, string in the sash, single pane glass windows that were all the rage 75 years ago.  So normally, when Jack Frost comes banging on the windows in early October and settles in for a nice long stay-cation, I do the only thing a respectable homeowner can do during the winter.  I bust out the hairdryer and shrink wrap those babies with a seal so crisp and clean they'd make the bubble boy jealous.

This winter, it just wasn't a priority.  That is, until yesterday when, sitting by the front door, I realized I was getting frostbite from the -10 degree windchill  nipping at my toes through the crack just above the threshold.  Thing is, with less than a month left to go, and 50 degree days coming this week, it seems like such a complete pain in the butt waste to gift wrap the windows.  So I did the next best thing.  I busted out the duct tape and sealed all the openings.

Don't judge.

It was white duct tape and it matches the trim.

It feels warmer already.

27 Survival Tips:

  1. I did't know duct tape came in white. I've seen the bright colors though. Sounds brilliant to me!

Good Luck with the taxes! :)

  2. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do! My sister was furious with her husband for shrink-wrapping the windows while she was down here visiting our parents. Her house is like a museum so to her, it was simply butt ugly. After about a week she quietly commented to me that the house was warmer AND she got a new blow dryer out of it since her husband burned out the old one. I am not so concerned about how it looks, so we put styrofoam boards, the insulation boards, in our windows at night to keep the cold away. The sun generally warms up the house during the day.

    1. It really does work. This year I was going to do the heavier plastic that you get at joann's but then they closed the store by us and I just forgot. The boards are great for the attic for us because you can just push it out of the way when you need to get into the space. Sadly, I forgot that too. :)

  3. YAY for Patty! :) [We want to see what you create, please!]

And I am laughing [with you] at the windows. So funny. I would do the same thing, but the only duct tape we have is psychidelic [sp?] so you can imagine my decorating scheme.

The weather has been sooooo weird - I don't know what to make of it. I do wish it would snow tho'.

Enjoy getting your taxes done. Ours are pretty simple so I will be doing ours myself. [Thank goodness for Turbotax.]

    Have a good one!

    1. I thought about using the purple and florescent pink I have on hand for taping mailboxes shut at work, but then I thought I should use up the white. :)

We opted to go with someone this year since ours got exponentially harder this year. Next year, when we know what of all our stuff we can claim is legal (think 2 houses, GF food, kids exemptions, SS benefits, etc.), we will most likely do ourselves again. Although, it is nice just handing it off. :)

  4. The redneck way usually is brilliant(cough, cough) in a temporary kinda way. Thing is once we tape it, coat hanger it, or WD 40 it, up we never get around to fixing it.

  5. I would think a woman getting the taxes done would be awfully attractive to a man. ;)

    1. And I'm having ANOTHER woman do the taxes. A perverted mind could find that extremely sexy. :)

  6. No judging here. Middlest had to decorate her V-Day box last night (cause of course I forgot), and all I had to decorate with was pink gaff tape and some purple electrical tape.

    It looks (ghetto/electrical) fabulous.

And ditto on the 'meh'. BIG ditto.

    1. I think it always was duct tape, but then somewhere along the line someone marketed Duck tape, because I actually think that Duck tape exists as well. :)

That's ALL changed now. What do I need to do?
AND! Stephanie D... I thought it was Duck tape clear up till I read this post. I mean, they put a picture of a Duck right on it. Talk about confusing.
I've got my cracks and crevices duck taped up too.
