Because Sunday was spent cleaning, organizing, and laying floor.
Let's recap, shall we?
Before the sun room looked like this...
Wainscoting on the bottom half, sage green, with linoleum wood look floors with Tony most often found reading the paper in front of the air conditioner.
Then the seams of the roof that spanned the entire back half of the house let go. And we had
So of course, I could now fix all the stuff I hated about that room. Stuff like, the panel board walls, mismatched drywall, worn floors, and ceiling issues. In order to do that though, it meant a lot of sweat equity and coupons. Lots of coupons to Lowes and Home Depot.
So shortly after Christmas, the demo began...
We ripped out everything back to the studs and re-insulated. Including the ceiling...
We ran some new electrical, changed out some light fixtures, put in a recessed light by the back door and installed a brand new, energy efficient door t
...and exposed my giant mess of a stockpile for all the world to see. After some carefully thought out replacement of my .25 cent spaghetti sauce, a quick trip to target, and enlisting the help of a professional dry wall guy, it started to look more like this....
And the other half of the room, after some window casings, like this....
Finally, after the second coat of paint, the electrical outlets restored to their former positions, and another trip to Lowes, the floor was purchased
We acclimated it for the standard few days. (Floor meet bamboo, bamboo meet floor... now play nice.) And on Sunday, decided to dive in head first. After some reading of instructions and some conference with my Dad, it was determined that we had bought (unbeknownst to me) a click and lock hardwood floor. Seriously, why did no one tell me that they made solid hard wood in click and lock? So with under-layment down, we started the process...
Yes. We did the cutting in the other half of the kitchen to spare the neighbors the 8 am power saw wake up call. And it IS still winter here, even if it doesn't feel like it.
Anyway... under-layment....
A nice picture of Tony's fabulous butt...
And the finished floor....
We still need baseboards, door trim, new furniture,
But it's coming along.
And it's perfect for sliding like a ninja in fluffy socks.
So... how was your weekend?
The floor looks great! Glad I'm not the only adult who slides across the floor in her fluffy socks. ;)
ReplyDeleteFloor looks super nice and shiny.
ReplyDeleteI painted. A lot. Love that floor.
ReplyDeleteYour weekend was better. LOL
ReplyDeleteHope you left that full 1/4 inch spacing betwixt the floor and the wall.
Everything looks really nice.
We did, thanks! this weekend is the trim.
DeleteThen for the next two months... the "other" part of the kitchen.
I think that what you have done is fantastic!! This weekend we waited for the snow.
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful!!! Well done.
ReplyDeleteI just keep freaking out over the narrow ledge above the stairs. Knowing that if I ever came to your house, I would be the first one to fall down there.
ReplyDeleteThe floor looks beautiful. It also looks like a gigantic pain in the ass.
ledge isn't really scary at all, it's almost 3 feet wide.
DeleteAnd yes. Ass still hurting. :)
You (& Tony) are a better man than I, Gunga Din. IT LOOKS GORGEOUS!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! And I LOVE the paint color! Can you tell me what it is? I want to paint our bathroom that color!!
ReplyDeleteI'll get back to you. I can't find the paint chip, but have the code... I think it's shaker gray from Benjamin Moore, but I'll double check with the paint guy. :)
DeleteThat looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, still alive.
Love the new look! You must be so excited and happy to have it done to the point it is! Congrats! :)
ReplyDeleteYour room looks awesome! What a wonderful job. We have glue down bamboo floors (glued to the concrete floor) and love them! They do not hold up that well against Tucker's nails, so we have scratches, but it gives the floors that rustic look, right? We did not have Tucker when we put the floors down!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Ami about that ledge! It would scare the poop outta me! :)
We used a strand bamboo vs a regular bamboo because of it's increased strength. Youngest is a big ECO nut so I liked it's renewable quality.
DeleteThe ledge isn't so bad... and the cat loves it. :) The kids only reach into the first few hooks, most everything else we reach from the stairs.
That looks so good! How was putting in the click & lock floor? I have grand intentions of someday in the nearer than far future to replace the kitchen and sitting room floors (one carpet one linoleum) with some "wood" floors. Though yours looks so pretty, I couldn't put hardwood in a trailer.......
ReplyDeleteSo easy! There are several laminate click and locks, as well as linoleum wood look a likes that are great. Check reviews though, sometimes the wear in high traffic isn't great.
DeleteSliding like a ninja on hardwood floors is one of life's greatest joys! Who doesn't enjoy that!? The room looks wonderful! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! You are so talented!
ReplyDeleteHow was my weekend? Not as exciting and busy as yours. Good work.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Once again, you never cease to amaze me. Gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteWell, okay, I am flying you to Maui to do over my kitchen.
ReplyDeleteI want to slide on your floor with Ninja sock....please, pretty please!
yes Please!
DeleteHow about that awesome ass on Tony.
ReplyDeleteIt is quite nice, Mr. Anonymous. :)
DeleteGorgeous floors and wall coloring. Yes, I know I owe you some pics of my kitchen (and actually the upstairs bathroom too)...Next week, I promise!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNo, Really I do.
Wow. Simply stunning.
ReplyDeleteYou do the most exciting stuff on the weekends ;)
ReplyDeletereally? you guys rock. i took a postal exam yesterday...
ReplyDeleteFor what craft and for where? Details, Details!
Deletei don't know what craft means and i'm kinda confused. middleboro office... and i applied for delivery, distribution and retail. i went to fall river to take exam 473 and got a 75. i think i passed. i was a little shaky on the memorization of zip codes part. they sent me email with my score and a list of about 20 jobs i am eligible for, but no further instruction... the no further instructions is what i'm confused about.
ReplyDeleteCraft means weather you are a carrier, clerk or supervisor. So what I'm gathering is that you took the standard postal battery exam which means you're eligible for any postal position. Middleboro can be a good office but I have heard mixed reviews. As far as carrying mail, there are two crafts, rural and city delivery. Rural (that's me) gets paid by the day based on an evaluation, city carriers get paid by the hour. Rurals have a lot more flexibility and city carriers have none. As far as the list of jobs, you then need to go online and apply for the open positions. Word of advice, don't limit yourself to Middleboro, Plymouth is a really large office and is always in need of carriers. Bear in mind that training at the PO sucks no matter where you are, and the turn over because of that is 75%. Email me if you have any questions or confusion, I'd be glad to work you through it.... I just did it for my brother in law. Good luck!
